Playoffs Near at Canadian Mixed Doubles Trials in Portage

The competition is just about as good as it gets, and several teams are still vying for the playoffs and to keep their Olympic dream alive at the Canadian Mixed Doubles Trials in Portage at Stride Place.

"Things are going really well," said Allen Dahl, Chairperson for the event. "We've had some great support, and I think curling fans are slowly starting to get used to this format."

As the days go on, the games become more important, and with today being the final day of round robin, this is the most important day yet.

"Things are starting to get really exciting as teams try to get into the playoffs," said Dahl. "Eight teams will make the playoffs, and we might have some tiebreakers tomorrow morning."

As of play this morning, a few teams still have undefeated records and have clinched playoffs, but much is still to be determined, and as Dahl notes, anyone can win.

"I think it's still way early to predict a winner," said Dahl. "Many teams are still in contention. Once you get to the playoffs, everything resets and any rink could win if they play well."

You can still catch plenty of action with draws taking place today, tomorrow, Saturday and the Championship is set for Sunday afternoon.

"This event is a historic one," said Dahl. "So any curling fan should come out, and if you do, it will definitely be worth your while."
