After taking a break, the Dauphin Kings "50 for 50" campaign is back up and running.
"We want to remind people that the goal this year is $50,000," said Dean Cooley, Finance/Business Operations for the Kings. "We're just under $40,000 this year so far, so we're looking for another couple hundred people who would be willing to donate $50 or more to the campaign to celebrate the past 50 years of the organization, and the next 50."
In case you aren't familiar with the "50 for 50" campaign, Kings Alumni Jordan Pernarowski has more details.
"Dean and the board and I sort of came up with the idea to raise money for the team so they can lower their debt," said Pernarowski. "We've been working on this for a few years, and this campaign really helps us get the debt lower."
Billet costs, transportation, meals, and much more is included each season for the Kings, and as the seasons go on, the debt of the team rises, but the "50 for 50" campaign is helping to eliminate the debt accumulated over the past seasons.
"Each year, the billet expenses are about $60,000, which is obviously very important because we need good places for the players to live throughout the season," said Cooley. "Our bus service is about $40,000. Then we spend another $30,000 on equipment, and $30,000 renting ice. To run the Kings each year is roughly $500,000."
It's very easy if you want to donate to the "50 for 50" campaign. All you have to do is contact Christian Laughland at 204-622-5461, or claughland@dauphinkings.com, or Jordan Pernarowski at jordan@perncpa.ca, or 204-638-0909.
"We're really encouraging everyone to donate $50," said Pernarowski. "But, we will take anything you're willing to give. We've seen a group of people come together to give $50. We're very happy with any donation that is given."
