When you head to the Dauphin Kings game tonight, you may notice a new face on the bench, and that face is Brett Anderson.
Anderson was hired as the new Assistant Coach in late December.
"It's pretty special to be out here," said Anderson. "It's a great opportunity, and I hope to be a part of the solution to turning things around out here."
Dauphin isn't the first stop for Anderson in his coaching career, in fact, it's one of many stops, most of which have been at very high levels.
"Most recently, I was in the WHL with the Red Deer Rebels," said Anderson. "Prior to that, I spent some time with junior and professional hockey overseas, which shaped me in many different ways. Before that, I spent some time coaching university, and college, and prep hockey, so I guess I've gotten my hands into just about everything."
Having coached at the WHL level, and pro overseas, Anderson has been around players at the next level and plans on bringing his knowledge to the Kings now.
"I think the biggest thing is the way things are done," said Anderson. The work ethic, the attention to details, and that ultimately it's a marathon, not a sprint. It's not as easy with younger athletes, but it's about instilling the process that it takes. It's just about knowing I'm here to assist the players and help them move along."
The Kings are back in action tonight when they welcome Swan Valley.
"This is the team in town, and ultimately, the players play for the fans," said Anderson. "The support from fans can do so much for the players. Some exciting things are happening here, and the group is a young one, so it will be exciting to grow with them, and it would be nice to see the community grow with them as well."
Puck drop tonight is set for 7:30 at Credit Union Place.
