Dauphin's Sami Love received some good news to start the month, as she was one of two Brandon University Bobcat players to be named "Player of the Month" for the month of November.
"It means a lot," said Love. "It's always a pretty tough jump from High School to University, so to be recognized for what I'm doing, definitely means a lot."
The jump from High School to University is a big jump for most, but Love has seemed to do it quite well in her first year as a Bobcat.
"I'm very lucky to have done this so easily," said Love. "It's definitely tough. The game is so much faster, and people are hitting so much harder, and what worked in High School, doesn't necessarily work in University. I've had to make some changes during the transition, but we have a great team, that has really helped me."
The 6-foot middle has become a household name in the middle position and sits among the conference leaders in blocks per set (1.24) and total blocks (46).
Love also sits third in kills on the Bobcats with 69 and has totalled 109.5 points.
"I've changed my mindset on the game," said Love. "The game is so much faster, but I've put a lot of work in, and I've watched a lot of game tape which has really helped me. I'm just being confident in my game."
Love and the rest of the Bobcats finished off their pre-Christmas play with a 7-5 record, which has them in fifth place in the conference.
"It's been super exciting pulling off wins against teams we don't usually have success against," said Love. "We've shown teams that as a young team, we can compete. We're going into the second half with quite a bit of confidence, and I think it will be awesome."
Love and the rest of the Bobcats will kick off the New Year when they travel to Calgary to play the U of C Dinos on Jan. 12-13.
